Feeder Cattle Auction 

Receipts: 1851 Week Ago: 695 Year Ago: 2186 

Compared to the last special two weeks ago, steer calves under 600 lbs were lightly tested, with 600-700 lbs trading mostly steady on comparable weights, 700-800 lbs sold steady to 4.00 lower with 800-900 lbs selling mostly 10.00-12.00 lower. Heifer calves under 500 lbs sold steady on a light test, with 500-600 lbs selling 5.00-10.00 lower and 600-700 lbs trading mostly steady over 700 lbs were lightly tested on limited comparisons. Demand was moderate to good on a moderate supply. The feeder cattle market held up very well as CME Cattle futures had a strong two day market slide with Friday’s aggressive sell-off of on feeder cattle contracts from March thru October falling 6.22 to 8.10 lower. The bulk of the feeder supply weighed over 600 lbs with 4 pot loads of big yearling steers weighing from 768 to 930 lbs and two pot loads of heifers at 817-876 lbs. Several stick out sales included 67 steers weighing 768 lbs at 374.00, 64 steers 879 lbs at 336.00 and 58 steers weighing 930 lbs at 331.50. Slaughter steers and heifers and slaughter cows all sold steady to firm. On March 13, EMC will hold their 3rd Border Wars Auctioneer Contest.
